The RJEC Awards Banquet   

 

The 2012 Engineers Week Banquet has been scheduled for Thursday Feb 23rd at the Jefferson Hotel as a part of 2012 Engineers Week.  Our featured speaker will be Mr. David Lohr the Exec. Director and President of CCAM (the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing). CCAM is charged with bringing together best-in-class manufacturers and some of Virginia’s top university research institutions such as UVA, VT, and VSU.  He is a founding member of the VT Chemical Engineering Advisory Board and is a past director of Greater Richmond Technology Council. He was appointed by Gov. McDonnell in Dec 2011 to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Manufacturing Development Commission.

Student Video and Written Essay Contests

 

As in years past, RJEC will award cash prizes at the banquet for the best student video and written essays dealing with their interpretation or representation of an engineer or an engineering career.  Cash prizes awarded in each competition are: 1st - $200, 2nd - $125, 3rd - $75. Classes participating in area public middle and high schools will be designated by their school administrators with student entries submitted by teachers to RJEC. Essays are limited to 500 words or less and videos to 4 minutes duration or less. If you would be interested in participating see complete rules below.

Career Day - Feb 19th, 2012

 

As was done last year, 2012 Career Day will be held on the Sunday prior to the banquet and winners of the contests will be honored at the awards banquet on Thursday night.. The Science Museum of Virginia will again host Career Day on Feb. 19  in conjunction with Engineers Week. As in past years, contests for Middle and High School Students will include an egg drop contest sponsored by ASME and a bridge building contest sponsored by ASCE. Other contests are also being discussed by other societies.
