Engineers Week - 2010
The RJEC Awards Banquet
The traditional Engineers Week Banquet was held on Thu Feb 18th at the Jefferson Hotel. The speaker was Mr. John Crean, VP of Alstom Thermal Services.
Awards for Engineer of the Year and Community Service were presented to Evan Edwards and Dr Gymama Slaughter respectively. In addition, the RJEC presented the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award to Richard Hull for his work and efforts encouraging the youth of our community to become involved in the sciences and engineering.
Cash awards were presented to Math-Science Innovation Center, The Science Museum of VA, the VCU Scholarship Program, and First Robotics. The Richmond Forum and WCVE were also recognized. Sweetbriar College was recognized for graduating their first engineering class. Rudy Krack won the Chairman’s Award.
Video and written essay contest winners were announced. Kevin Quiqley of LC Bird Governors Academy won the video contest and Michael Peter of Cosby HS won the written essay contest. Details on the contest can be found in this link. Essay Contest Information
Career Day
2010 Career Day was held at the Science Museum on Sunday Feb. 28 in conjunction with Engineers Week. As in years past, contests included an egg drop contest sponsored by ASME and a bridge building contest sponsored by ASCE.
